It is believed that this was the site of the ancient city of Finikas, and was the port of ancient Anopolis. How to get to LoutroThe only way to get to Loutro is by ferry from Chora Sfakion. There is no road there, which is part of its unique charm. The boat leaves the harbour at Chora Sfakion, travels past the steep coastline with its caves and cliffs dropping sheer into the deep blue water, and enters the calm bay of Loutro where a row of white houses comes into view, crowning the small beach hidden in the arms of the Sfakia mountains.

Pheonix or Finikas is a small beach between Marmara beach and Loutro Village. Situated some 82 kilometers far from Chania at the South and 1-2 kilometers at the West of Loutro, within a small cove, Phoenix is a pebbly beach with a rocky seabed very good for snorkelling and affected only by the southern winds.

Ο Λουτρός είναι ένα γραφικό και υπήνεμο ψαροχώρι στη νότια ακτή της Κρήτης, στην περιοχή Σφακίων, χωρίς οδική επικοινωνία με την υπόλοιπη Κρήτη.

Σε ύψωμα πάνω από το λιμανάκι του Λουτρού υπάρχει ένα τούρκικο φρούριο -μάλλον του 19ου αιώνα- με αξιοπρόσεκτη αρχιτεκτονική. Σε μικρή απόσταση από το φρούριο σώζεται και κυλινδρικός πύργος σε αρκετά καλή κατάσταση
