Petrochori, also Petrohori and Petrokhori (Greek, Modern: Πετροχώριον meaning rockvillage) is situaded at the foot of Mt Samithos (1017m) with a marvelous view to the Ida Massif and to Amari Valley, at an altitude of 480m .
The distance from Rethimno city is 43 km and 32 km from Zaros. The road straight ahead (eastern) begins to go uphill towards Vizari and Fourfouras.
In Petrohori there is the Byzantine church of Agii Apostoli with some unusual frescoes and inscriptions of 1580 and 1594. There is an old fountain at the entrance to the village, opposite the church.
