Στο Κεφάλι (ύψωμα) Αγ. Αντωνίου ή Κρέμασμα στην παραθαλάσσια περιοχή ανατολικά του Οικισμού Σίσι εκτείνεται ο Αρχαιολογικός χώρος «Μπούφος» με σημαντικά ευρήματα και ανακαλύψεις διαφόρων χρονικών περιόδων. Το 1976 έγινε η κήρυξη του αρχαιολογικού χώρου και ορίστηκε αρχαιολογική ζώνη με απαλλοτρίωση 40 στρεμμάτων από το ελληνικό δημόσιο.
Η πρώτη μικρή ανασκαφή έγινε από τον αρχαιολόγο Κώστα Δαβάρα ενώ έπειτα από μισό περίπου αιώνα, το 2006 ξεκίνησαν συστηματικές ανασκαφές από την Αρχαιολογική Σχολή του Βελγίου με επικεφαλής τον καθηγητή Jan Driessen. Η σύζυγος του επικεφαλής των ανασκαφών είναι η εγγονή του Πολ Φορ, ο οποίος είναι γνωστός και αγαπητός στην Κρήτη, ένεκα του πολύ σπουδαίου έργου που έχει καταγράψει για τον τόπο μας, σε συνεργασία με τον Πλατάκη, σημαντικοί και οι δύο σπηλαιολόγοι και ερευνητές.
Ο Αρχαιολογικός Χώρος «Μπούφος», στο Σίσι θεωρείται μια από τις πιο σημαντικές ανακαλύψεις τα τελευταία χρόνια στην Κρήτη. Η περίοδος ακμής της πόλης ήταν την υστερομινωϊκή εποχή (1350- 1250 π.χ.). Δίπλα ακριβώς στη θάλασσα υπάρχει ο νεκροταφιακός χώρος (τέλος της πρωτομινωικής και αρχές της μεσοομινωϊκής περιόδου, δηλαδή περίπου 2100-1800 π.Χ.). Στους τάφους αυτούς έχουν ήδη βρεθεί πολλά αγγεία, οστά και κρανία ενώ όπως ανέφερε ο επικεφαλής, κ. Jan Driessen ξεχωρίζουν τα αγγεία δίπλα στους νεκρούς καθώς και τα «Κυκλώπεια Τείχη» που διακρίνονται καθαρά στα χαμηλότερα επίπεδα του λόφου.

Sissi is located 40 km from Iraklion and 25 km from Agios Nikolaos, near to all the places you should see but yet quiet and calm. The landscape is well balanced between sea and mountains. The sea is warm and calm and there are small, clean and romantic beaches. There are paths for people who love biking and for those who prefer walking there are the beautiful roads of the village and the wonderful lanscape around Sisi where they can enjoy the contact with nature. The visitor can enjoy the Cretan way of life, as Sisi is small, hospitable and quiet, but full of life. It offers accommodation that serves all tastes, with hotels of every category (rooms, studios, apartments) with 3500 available beds, and a camping. In Sisi there are many small hotels with family character, who are characterized by the warm relationships between the personnel and the guests. There are also various stores and services that cover every need and suit to every pocket. The small and picturesque port of Sisi looks like a big natural swimming pool and is ideal for walks by the sea. In the port there is the picturesque anchorage of the amateur fishermen where they moor their boats, as Sisi has lots of fishing places. On the east side of the village there is the sandy beach of Boufos, with the international award of the Golden Starfish. After the beach of Bufos, there is the small, romantic beach of Avlaki, that gives the feeling of a private beach. From Sisi there is regular transportation to two traditional Cretan villages, Vrahasi and Epano Sisi.

The coastline around Sissi village is mainly rocky, except a few small beaches. Moreover, the sea is usually wavy. Thus, the only beach in the village of Sissi, where you can everyday swim, is located inside the harbor. It is a very small beach with calm waters, with a few umbrellas and showers.

If you want more seclusion, spread your beach towel under the shade of the sea pines at the very beginning of the beach.
