The Gorge Katsouna is a small, but unknown and verdant gorge near the village Vrisses, 3 km south of Platanias coastal Village and 14km west from Chania city.

 

The length of the gorge is just over 1 km, and begins 200m south of the village, heading at first to south - south east and then continues for a while Northeast, to reach the entrance to the ancient city of Pergamos which was built on two closely spaced geological hills of dolomitic limestone and tumors.

Gorge "Katsounas" got this name because of the shape it has and refers by Herodotus as the "Xenia Street", where in ancient times the strangers had not visual contact with the ramparts and walls of the ancient city Pergamon.The above hills are called "Citadels" and on the taller is today the chapel of St. George, while at the foot of this peak, at an altitude of 130 meters there is the entrance of the cave "Kera Spilotissa", whose creation is placed at the time of stone.
