Agii Anargyri (Galini) 2731 hits

Galini is located 47km southeast of Agios Nikolaos and 13km east of Ierapetra. It is a small village, slightly developed, which is built in a lush landscape with pine trees. The coast around the village is full of hidden coves with pebbly beaches, where access is tricky, since only some well-hidden paths lead there.

Galini beach are actually 2 coves with a distance of 100m between them. The east cove is easier to find and reach. The west cove is very difficult to find and is accessible only by a hidden path, partialy carved in the rock, a very impressive work. Unfortunatelly the path starts from a privat property and there is no sign on the central road which help discover this mysterious area.

The beach is relatively long and is located between Ahlia and Agia Fotia where the settlement of Galini is expanded. It has fine pebbles, calm clear waters and the seabed in some areas is rocky. The beach is completely unknown, mainly because it is protected by large rocks that hide it from the main road. Thus, it is always empty and is suitable for isolation. It is not organized, but the hotels and the taverns of the settlement are close by. To reach the east beach, you must follow a narrow path that starts from the central road.

Agia Fotia
Agia Fotia 2725 hits

Agia Fotia Beach in MakriGialos region:

A famous and small touristic summer resort at the southern coastline (Libyan Sea) between Makri Gialos and Ierapetra. The beach is beside the central road of Ierapetra - Sitia and very easy to approach.

Is is also close by two other resorts, Ferma and Koutsouras. The area is very quiet compared to other pieces of Crete. In order to reach Agia Fotia you take the exit leading from the main road that runs between Ierapetra and the seaside resort of Makrigialos. The road down the hill is very steep. At the end of the road down at the beach you can park your car in front of the Agia Fotia Taverna.

The beach of Agia Fotia is about 150 - 200 meters long. It is a sandy beach and in the center is very wide. The beach is surrounded by very high rocks and mountains to the south and it is very picturesque. Here and there you find trees for some shade, but there are also a number of umbrellas and sun beds for rent.

Pigadi 2697 hits
Shortly after Koutsounari settlement, 16 km east of Ierapetra and 41km southwest from Sitia, between Elena beach and Agia Fotia beach, there is also a small hidden beach called Pigadi (Well), because of a steep cliff that exists on the west side of the beach.
The distance from the main road is about 100m. There is a sign next to a small parking plot with just the word “Beach” on it.
At first you walk a path through olive groves and afterwards you continue on a well-preserved path which leads you downhill until you reach the eastern part of the beach.

There is also access to the western part of the beach to the central asphalt road through concrete stairs, but this second option is difficult to be found from the main road. These regions are almost exclusively visited by locals and rarely you can see tourists there, because they are off the beaten track and unknown.
