Ο ναός του Αγίου Κωνσταντίνου στο Αβδού Πεδιάδος είναι ένας απλός μονόχωρος ναός. Στο εσωτερικό του είναι κοσμημένος με τοιχογραφίες των αγιογράφων αδελφών Μανουήλ και Ιωάννη Φωκά, σημαντικών εκπροσώπων της κωνσταντινουπολίτικης τέχνης στην Κρήτη. Στην κτητορική επιγραφή του αναφέρεται το έτος 1445 και γίνεται μνεία του βυζαντινού αυτοκράτορα Ιωάννη Η΄ Παλαιολόγου (1425-1448), παρά το ότι οι Κρήτες είχαν ήδη γνωρίσει δυο αιώνες ενετικής κατοχής.
Το τεταρτοσφαίριο της αψίδας κοσμείται με παράσταση του Χριστού Παντοκράτορα, ενώ πιο κάτω εικονίζονται οι Συλλειτουργούντες Ιεράρχες Βασίλειος και Χρυσόστομος. Στο θριαμβικό τόξο παριστάνεται η Φιλοξενία του Αβραάμ, πλαισιωμένη από τη σύνθεση του Ευαγγελισμού (Θεοτόκος - Αρχάγγελος Γαβριήλ). Την καμάρα του ιερού καταλαμβάνουν οι παραστάσεις της Ανάληψης και της Πεντηκοστής καθώς και τα Εισόδια. Στην καμαρωτή οροφή του κυρίως ναού απαντούν στα άνω διάχωρα Ευαγγελικές σκηνές (Υπαπαντή, Εις Άδου Κάθοδος, Σταύρωση, Μεταμόρφωση, Ίαση του Τυφλού) και στα κάτω σκηνές από το συναξάριο του Αγίου Κωνσταντίνου. Στους πλευρικούς τοίχους εικονίζονται ολόσωμοι Άγιοι. Στο δυτικό τοίχο υπάρχει νωπογραφική παράσταση της Κοίμησης της Θεοτόκου, έργο του Ιωάννη Φωκά, και σκηνές από την παράσταση της Τελευταίας Κρίσεως.
Η τεχνοτροπία των Φωκάδων χαρακτηρίζεται από μια τάση ακαδημαϊσμού που εντοπίζεται στη λιτότητα, την ηρεμία και την ισορροπία των συνθέσεων. Τα στοιχεία αυτά τους κατατάσσουν ανάμεσα στους άμεσους προδρόμους της Κρητικής Σχολής του 15ου και 16ου αι.

The inhabitants of Avdou took part in many battles during the Turkish occupation and the Second World War. In 1841 the Turks, who decapitated many of its inhabitants, destroyed the village. Avdou is the birthplace of many Greek heroes and revolutionaries who fought bravely against the Turks, such as S. Xanthourithis, N. Tylianakis, Ioannis Dafotis. For that reason it is called “Kapetanochori” (Captains¢ village).
The participation of the locals in the resistance during the Second World War was again of great importance. The village constituted a centre of catering and supported the guerrilla teams in the mountains. In 1944 the rebels managed to sneak into the building of the Old School, which was occupied by the Germans and take away the German flag. This offensive act led the Germans to arrest many village residents. With the intervention, however, of a moderate Austrian officer and the diplomatic ability of the chairman of Community, Emmanouil Smyrnakis, they were released.
