Geropotamos river begins from Idi mountain and flows at the north side of Crete at Geropotamos beach (32 km long) and is the most important river of the prefecture.

 Accross the river there are different wetlands with unique beauty. It's considered as the holy river of the Minoans. The river flows at the Messarras gulf while it pass through Knossos and Gortyn Town.
