Manoliopoulo 2857 hits

The village Manoliopoulo belongs to the municipality Platanias, Kydonia, with 265 residents (1981), at an altitude of 120 meters and 20km away from Chania Town.

There are so many beautiful locations to explore throughout West Crete and Chania area, that you can spend a lifetime visiting them all and walking is definitely the best way to get the most from Crete, its fantastic scenery, traditional villages and friendly, welcoming people. One of these places in Chania is the Manoliopoulo village area. This route is unknown but very beautiful and easy to cross.

The 3 to 4 hours circular walk starts at the village of Manoliopoulo, deeply hidden into the Chania fertile hinterland. A rough dirt track takes us first through a very green and lush landscape to the hamlet of Skonizo where we then follow a river bed with many plane trees into the Lagos gorge back to Manoliopoulo.

Deres 2797 hits

At the edge of the municipality of Platanias in the Chania Prefecture, West Crete, located in a semi-mountain region with plenty of sparkling waters, green scenery and remarkable landscapes for touring and resting, is the village of Deres .

Most interesting is a visit to the complex of well-preserved Venetian monastery buildings, as well as to the many chapels of the area.

Undoubtedly, the images of the Cretan hospitality of the people of Deres and their traditional celebrations will be an unforgettable experience and a warm memory.

Try to find time to... honor them with your presence at one of the four festivals that begin in July

and end in early September. Taste the local thyme honey, Gruyere cheese, light wine, fried delicacies and, of course, tsikoudia...

Here the local population, besides olive cropping, collects chestnuts, produces honey and even manufactures coal in a traditional manner. At the traditional cafeterias you will be able to buy the local products made here.

Also, a horse riding school operates in the area, with its own tavern for rest, food and horseback riding.
