The Cave of St. John the Hermit is bright and glorious, ancient and majestic. It has a capacity of 3000-4000 people and you can relish the magnificent view of Kolimbari plain that enchants every visitor. In pre-Christian period probably it was used as a place of worship of pagan gods. It has been found a head marble of an altar (It iskept in the museum of the parish) and a marble head of a child, as well.In the years after Christ, it was used as a sanctuary, a place of worship of the living God. It was rebuilt a church in the cave in the 16th century in honour of St. John the Hermit. Later cells for nuns and a large tank were built outside the cave, in which the water of the rain was gathered. To the north there are the foundations of 3-4 cells which remain as a witness that the cave had been used as a women monastery in the17-18th century.
