The descent from the Vavouledo village as the starting settlement, through the courtyard of the temple of Agios Vasilios and the Holy Cross, an area with chestnuts and huge trees, are fabulous. It is hidden area in one of the most beautiful chestnut woods of Crete at a hillside overlooking Apopigadi mountain (1335m) to the south.
It is a beautiful little canyon 6 km with clear water running almost all year round, It starts in the neighborhood of Hamalevri settlement -1300m west from Vavouledo village- from the Secret School-Church of St. George. After halfway through teaming with another path, about 4 km long, which starts from Agios Vasilios church Vavouledo, it continues a common path leading to the entrance of the village of Palea Roumata.
The canyon is covered by shady trees across the path. In summer, at the end of the route in Palea Roumata, traditional tavernas and cafes await guests with authentic local cuisine.
The tradition says that the secret school that operated by the Turks in Agios Georgios (close to Hamalevri settlement) was so famous that students came from Platanias by Chania and Sklavopoula by Elafonisi. According to tradition its existence was revealed to the Turks with treason. Then they surrounded the temple and then slaughtered 70 children and the monk who taught them.
Από την πλατεία Κακοπέτρου, ανηφορίζοντας ανατολικά μπαίνουμε στα Παλαιά Ρούματα, ένα περιστοιχισμένο με βουνά χωριό, που αποτελεί κέντρο δημιουργίας και διατήρησης πλούσιου πολιτισμού, ενώ αποτελεί αφετηρία και κατάληξη των περισσότερων φυσιολατρικών διαδρομών του Δήμου. Το μικρό φαράγγι, 6 χιλιομέτρων, στη γειτονιά των Λειδιανών που ξεκινάει από το κρυφό σχολειό-εκκλησία του Αγίου Γεωργίου στο Χαμαλεύρι και αφού στα μέσα της διαδρομής ενωθεί με άλλο μονοπάτι, περίπου μήκους 4 χιλιομέτρων, που ξεκινάει από τον Άγιο Βασίλειο στο Βαβουλέδο, συνεχίζουν σε κοινή διαδρομή καταλήγοντας στη πλατεία του χωριού. Τα δύο μονοπάτια, στα οποία κυριαρχεί το έντονο φυσικό στοιχείο και η βιοποικιλότητα της χλωρίδας, έχουν κατασκευαστεί με χρηματοδότηση του προγράμματος LEADER. Στην περιήγηση στα Παλαιά Ρούματα, αξίζει η επίσκεψη στον συνοικισμό Κάμερες στο αρχοντικό των Ρενιέρηδων, το μοναδικό στη ευρύτερη περιοχή που έχει οικόσημο και που χρονολογείται από την εποχή της ενετοκρατίας. Κοντά στην πλατεία του χωριού υπάρχει η αιωνόβια ελιά των Παλαιών Ρουμάτων, ένα μοναδικό γλυπτό της φύσης. Τα βυζαντινά ξωκλήσια αποτελούν ορισμένα ακόμα από τα αξιοθέατα της περιοχής: του Αγίου Βασιλείου και του Τιμίου Σταυρού στο Βαβουλέδο, της Κοίμησης της Θεοτόκου στο Περαχώρι, του Αγίου Ιωάννη στο Αποπηγάδι το όποίο βρίσκεται στα σύνορα των τριών επαρχιών, Κισσάμου, Σελίνου και Κυδωνίας. Μετά από την περιήγηση στα πανέμορφα μέρη του χωριού, στην πλατεία οι παραδοσιακές ταβερνούλες περιμένουν κάθε επισκέπτη να του προσφέρουν γνήσιες κρητικές γεύσεις φτιαγμένες αποκλειστικά από ντόπια προϊόντα. Η φύση χάρισε με γενναιοδωρία πολλές ομορφιές στην περιοχή. Η πανδαισία των χρωμάτων και των αρωμάτων μένει αλησμόνητη.
Apopigadi (1335m) is a Mountain in Chania prefecture in the Crete Region of Greece. Locations near Apopigadi include the small Settlement of Spina to northwest and the Village of Sebronas to northeast.

The small chapel of St. - John was built in 1873, by founder Stelios Sifakis from Agia Irini village, Selino area. Until 1897, when the Turks began to leave the island, this mountain region was a place where it used to meet rebels and warlords.To the southeast side of St. John chapel is a water source with ice crystal water with plane trees where visitors can find some rest and can enjoy the coolness and the beautiful landscape. This site with the source and around the church is still called " Gitemeni Vrisi"
Ιερός Ναός Αγίου Βασιλείου (Βαβουλέδω - Παλιά Ρούματα Κισάμου). Ο ναός του Αγίου Βασιλείου στον οικισμό Βαβουλέδω των Παλαιών Ρουμάτων Κισάμου κτίστηκε κατά το β’ μισό του 19ου αι., ως επέκταση του ναού του Σωτήρος Χριστού, με τον οποίο επικοινωνεί με άνοιγμα στο νότιο τοίχος. Ο αρχικός ναός διασώζει σε μεγάλο βαθμό τον τοιχογραφικό διάκοσμο, ο οποίος χρονολογείται με επιγραφή στα 1461. Οι τοιχογραφίες είναι έργο ικανού ζωγράφου και δείγμα της εξελιγμένης Παλαιολόγειας τέχνης στην Κρήτη.
Prasses Chania: The village of Prasses or Prases is located on the southern side of Chania, about 30 km from Chania Town, Chania Prefecture. This is a lovely small village that keeps intact the traditional Cretan style. It has stone houses and it is surrounded by wonderful, wild nature. .
Close to Prases village, there is the gorge of Prasses or Askidiano and more to the south you find the well known gorge of Agia Irene or Irini with two 13th century churches. The nature is lush green and consists mostly of chestnut trees, olive groves and fur trees. An area ideal for long walks and bicycling.
Ένα παλιό χωριό της πρώην κοινότητας Πρασέ Κυδωνίας Χανίων είναι τα Ασκήδια στα οποία υπάρχει μια μικρή βυζαντινή εκκλησία αφιερωμένη στον Άγιο Νικόλαο, ενώ σε αυτό το χωριό είναι και η έξοδος του εγκαταλελειμμένου φαραγγιού με την ονομασία Ασκηδιανό ή Πρασιανό επειδή συνεχίζεται και προς τον Πρασέ.

Spina is a small but very beautiful with rich vegetation and hidden mountain village with about 20-30 houses, situated at the northern slope of the Agios Zinas Mountain (1350m), 13 km far from the central road Chania-Kandanos and 38 km far from Paleohora.
The altitude is at 600m and you can enjoy the beautiful mountain landscape and view to Sembronas-Palea Roumata area and north Kandanos area.
