Voulgaro village, the seat of the homonym community, is located just 9km southeast of Kissamos and includes the settlements of Dermitziana, Latziana, Makronas, Mouri and Chouloudiana. The name of the village comes from the Bulgarian soldiers of Nicephorus Focas who lived there in 961 AD.
In Latsiana village, about 2km south of Voulgaro, following the road to Mouri, are the remnants of the basilica of the 15th century, dedicated to Santa Barbara.At a distance of 4km, south of Voulgaro, along a rough dirt road, is Mouri village with 116 inhabitants. Shortly before entering the village a path leads to the Byzantine church of St. Nikolaos
