At the location of Kato Vrisses, about 500 meters from the village center of Astritsi village and 21km south of Heraklion city and close to Choudetsi village, lies the small canyon of St. John or Astritsi gorge.

The area is full of vegetation because of the abundant waters that flow from the top of the gorge.

In front of the sources the Munucipality has created a recreation area with natural swimming pools or ponds with ducks and geese, benches and a pavilion of the cultural center of the village. Across from the water sources is the chapel of St. John the Baptist, built on an elevated spot, inside a cavernous cavity and above these you find the Neraidospilios cave.
