The mountaineering shelter Prinos is located in the eastern foot of Psiloritis mountain (Ida mountain) by a distance of 28km southwest of the city of Heraklion, in an altitude of 1100 metres. Following the European Mountaineering Path E4, that passes outside Ano Asites village and after two hours of walking you reach the shelter.
There is also an earth-road difficult for a conventional car, that begins little afterwards the abbey of Gorgolaini and goes up to the mountain. From this point shelter abstains 25 – 30 minutes by feet.
Asites village area are offered for those who like in walking and mountaineering ways. The ascent to the shelter of Prinos constitutes challenge for the visitor that wants to walk in the taller mountain of central Crete. This shelter, that was built in 1967 and extended in 1992 can entertain 25 individuals, it allocates reservoir of rain water and it is heated with two traditional heaters
Accessible by path from the villages of Kouroutes (10 km dirt road), Lohria (dirt road to the woods of Pardi 1500m from the hut), and Apodoulou. 50 beds.Rethymnon EOS holds the keys.
