Santorini or Thira is the most spectacular island of Cyclades. It is a unique place due to its volcano and its magnificent landscape. The island had a round shape until the volcano erupted in 1500 BC with a tremendous force that the central part sunk into the sea. The Minoan settlements on the island were destroyed and covered by volcanic ash. The huge tidal waves reached Crete and destroyed the Minoan civilisation. Monolithos is a tiny village located along an organised beach. It is ideal for relaxing holidays. Location: Eastern coast, 8 km from Fira, 3 km from Kamari, 2 km from airport, 10 km from port. Beach: Shallow waters, black sandy beach, organised with umbrellas, sun beds, and beach bar. The northern part of the beach is quiet and uncovered. Transportation: Regular bus service to Fira. Dining: Restaurants and tavernas, most of them on the sea front. Nightlife: In Kamari and Fira. Accommodation: Here are located some of the nicest complexes on the island.
