Mylonas Gorge or Ai Giannis, is located 18 kilometers east of Ierapetra. It begins from Agios Ioannis village, in 500 meter altitude and concludes in Kakia Skala beach. The way is wonderful while its most exciting spot is the great 20 meter waterfall where every visitor ends up.
Especially in the winter and after huge rains the waterfall presents a spectacular show.
The gorge of "Milonas" with small water falls is not easily accessible. The gorge is located 7 km east of Ierapetra city and 12 km west of Makrigialos coastal village. In the middle of the road from the traditional Village of Agios Ioannis towards Schinokapsala, you cross the forest of "Psihro" hamlet with springs, platans, pine and other trees.
The gorge is formed from this point on, at an altitude of 500m and ends at the south coast after 3 hours hiking. At an altitude of 300m you will meet several waterfalls, the largest of which has a height of 40m. In front of the waterfalls are formed small lakes, ideal for swimming.
The water from the springs of these mountains follows a route across "Milonas gorge" and ends to the sea some 7 kilometers further. In Koutsounari - Ferma area can also be found some beautiful beaches, like the famous Koutsounari Long beach and Agia Fotia.
The distance from the main road is about 100m. There is a sign next to a small parking plot with just the word “Beach” on it.
At first you walk a path through olive groves and afterwards you continue on a well-preserved path which leads you downhill until you reach the eastern part of the beach.
There is also access to the western part of the beach to the central asphalt road through concrete stairs, but this second option is difficult to be found from the main road. These regions are almost exclusively visited by locals and rarely you can see tourists there, because they are off the beaten track and unknown.
