Pahia Ammos 2783 hits
Pahia Amos Tris Ekklisies beach is located 200m west of Tris Ekklisies Village and Tries Ekklisies beach, at the southern slopes of Asterousia mountains in Heraklion prefecture and 65 km far from Heraklion city. The main route to Tris Ekklisies area is from Harakas village (Messara plain) - Paranimfi - Tris Ekkllisies.

Behind the big hill west of the dorp, there is a second stunning beach with fine sand, which is completely isolated and surrounded by the largest carob wood in Europe. The beach is called Pahia Ammos. Some locals call it Ornios. There is a short dirt track heading to Pahia Ammos from the Tris Ekklisies Village. West of Pahia Ammos, there are several caves near the coast, with amazing vivid water colors Moreover, sea turtles (Caretta caretta) nest on the beach.

The distance Harakas (Messara plain) - Paranimfi village is  7  kilometers (asphalt) and the distance Paranimfi - Tris Ekkllisies are 12  km (dirt road). Beside Tris Ekkllisies village there is a gorge with a very solid rock, which to pass, climbing needed. The lovely beach at Tris Ekkllisies is one of the crystal clearest beaches in the south of Heraklion Prefecture.

To get there, you need to drive through a dirt road, so we prefer a 4x4 jeep. The view you meet on your way to the beach is amazing. Tris Ekklisies except the beautiful crystal clear waters, you will find rooms and traditional tavernas and cafes. The destination is ideal for those who choose beaches away from the noise.

The village is welknown for the beautiful beaches of the wider area. Tris Ekklisies village (Three Churches) is located at the southern slopes of Asterousia mountains in Heraklion prefecture and 65 km far from Heraklion city. The main route to Tris Ekklisies is from Harakas (Messara plain) - Paranimfi - Tris Ekkllisies.

The route from Pirgos village to Tris Ekklisies: Leave Pirgos and take the road to Harakas and Paranimfi in a SouthWest direction. The road winds up the north side of the Asteroussia mountains. A panoramic view, with part of the Messara plain and some of the villages of the Monofatsi region, extends behind you. For the first 11 km as far as Paranimfoi, the road is paved. Take a rest, visit the village, have a cold drink or a raki at any one of the cafe to summon up your energy before plunging down the south side of the Asterousia mountains towards the Lybian sea. The drive on a dirt road is of 13 km to Tris Ekklisies and to some of the most unspoiled beaches in Crete.

800 m out of Paranymfoi, at Aba, it is worth your while to leave your car and walk along a stream lined with oleanders for about 200 m. A breathtaking view unfolds in front of you, down to the coast, beyond the settlement of Tris Ekklisies, and as far as the beach of Koudoumas in the Martelos headland.

Leaving Aba, continue to the south through a varied landscape. You will enjoy the sight of small waterfalls, springs, flocks of goats and sheep and artistically built stone sheepfolds. Not to mention the ubiquitous isolated small chapels that dot the landscape here and there.

Voidomatis beach is the first beach you come to (3km east of the Village), and half a kilometre further on you arrive at Tris Ekklisies where you can find rooms to stay and several tavernas where they serve fresh fish and traditional Cretan dishes. You will also find the traditional Greek kapheneion on the beach.  To the west lies the beautiful sandy beach of Pachia Ammos.

On your way back to Paranimfi, don’t forget to visit the chapel of Aghios Pavlos with its 14th century wall paintings.

Froudia 2609 hits
This remote beach is in a rugged area about 2 km west of the village Tris Ekklisies (Three Churches) in Asterousia mountains in Heraklion prefecture and 67 km far from Heraklion city. Its feature is that it has a small width and rear there are the huge Asterousia Mountains.

We recommend access by boat, as there are characteristic caves in the water close to the location. It is very difficult to access the beach on foot (which we do not reccomment), and you have to get a boat from the village. The seabed is rocky and very ideal for fishing.

Combined with the turquoise waters they create eye-catching colours.  Also, there is a relatively difficult dirt road, which leads close to shore as we move towards the west and we can visit the area by vehicle 4x4, enjoying the rugged scenery. A second dirt road passes over the hills of the beach and ends a few hundred meters to the west over the rough rocks of Asterousia.

Finally, the path Tris Ekkllisies - Froudia is suitable for hikers. Especially the second track is particularly interesting since it passes through a rare carob forest (locust tree forest), which is the largest in Greece. It spans almost the entire side of Asterousia, west of Tris Ekkllisies. The locust trees are planted, while sparse, but give an impressive overall picture as you approach the forest from the Tris Ekkllisies.

The main route to Tris Ekklisies arrea is from Harakas (south Messara plain) - Paranimfi - Tris Ekkllisies.
