Arvi 2740 hits

Arvi is a coastal village in the south of Heraklion prefecture, known for its sandy beaches and the verdant valley with bananas.

 

Here was the ancient city of Arvi. Ancient findings have shown that the area was inhabited from the Neolithic period. The name actually came from the Temple of Arvios Zeus located near the village. There was also an important city in Roman times as it seems to was one of the most important ports of the Mediterranean. In the region have been found a Roman bath, and several tombs with most important finds two marble sarcophagus with elaborate sculptured representations.

The village is located 78 km from Heraklion and 35 from the town of Ierapetra. Due to the many visitors in summer months have been developed hotels, apartments and restaurants offering to visitors the necessary comfort.
