Koutsounari is a village some 8 km east of Ierapetra, Lasithi, the easternmost of the four prefectures on the island of Crete, Greece. The village itself is sits a little up the hill, at the foot of cliffs, a short distance back from the shoreline of cristal-clear waters and endless beaches interspersed with secluded rocky coves. The beach is located between the famous Long Beach in Koutsounari and Peristeras Beach to west. The distance is 41km southeast of Agios Nikolaos and 32km west of Makrigialos coastal village.
The region has faced a mild development during the last years, especially due to some big hotels that have been built near the shore. Thus, along the main road linking Ierapetra and Makrygialos there are few restaurants and lodgings.The beach has coarse gray sand and its bottom has large smooth rocks, but there are also places with sand. Around there are several tamarisk trees providing shade, but there are umbrellas as well. The beach is well organized by the hotels and there is a court for beach volley, sunbeds, showers and facilities for water sports.
