Amoudara is situated in the department Heraklion and is a suburb of the capital Heraklion. Amoudara is known for the wide sandy beaches. The sea constantly brings new sand to the beach. The seawater is clean, the sand is nice and soft. The mainroad of Amoudara is filled with shops, bars, restaurants and large and fancy hotels, all offering a great sea view!

Amoudara owes its name to its natural sandy beach. (ammos means sand). the food in the restaurants is really good, the people are friendly and open to a chat. Even in high season, the beach does not get overcrowded, being 6km long, there is plenty of room for everyone. Sun loungers, wind-breakers & umbrellas are available for hire, but there is also plenty of spacious sand, where you can just lay down your beach towel. The beach ahs been awarded by the EU Blue Flag for its cleanliness. All in all, Amoudara is the ideal location for an enjoyable holiday, being close to Iraklion, but, without the hustle & bustle.

Amoudara has two disadvantages: the first is the ugly view on two smoking chimneys of the Greek Electricity company, a few kilometers west of Amoudara. Secondly, it can be very windy. However, this can also be an advantage in case of high temperatures.
