Pyrgou is a village of Gorgolaini municipality 20 kilometers outside Heraklion, Crete and approximately 1 kilometer outside Agios Myronas towards Asites village. The village is built on the slopes of a small hill and overlooks to the northwest the Krousonas and Agia Irini gorge. In Chrysopigi location there is Chrysopigi Monastery. Mother Mary (Panagia) is the patron saint of the village and her grace is celebrated every year on the 15th of August.
Agios Myronas is the capital of the Gorgolaini Municipality, 20 kilometers outside Heraklion, Crete since 1881.
Its population is 708 and it is located 6 kilometers north of Asites village. Agios Myronas is one of the most impressive villages of the area with very interesting traditional architecture and urban planning. The village is built on two hills on 440 meters altitude and this is the reason the village has an amazing view. The characteristic of the village is the clock of the school that is visible from the whole Malevizi County. Agios Myronas took its name from Saint Myron that was born in ancient Rafkos and was bishop of Crete in Gortyna in the end of the 4th century B.C. The water in the area of Agios Myronas is of great quality and it is an important natural resource for the municipality. In the gorge of ‘Drakos’ area, the winds create a unique auditory phenomenon.
