The village of Gerakari by Rethymno prefecture is famous for its cultivation of cherries. The village actually nestles among cherry trees and during the blossom time the sight is truly delightful. Following the road in the direction of Spili you will easily find the central provincial road, which connects the north and south area of the Prefecture of Rethymno.
The villages of Meronas, Gerakari, Ano Meros, Elenes and Vrises lie at the banks of Kedros Mountain, while the villages of Amari, Opsigia, Monastiraki, Lampiotes and Petrochori prevail at the side of Samitos Mt.. Dorps such as Monastiraki, Vizari, Asomatos, Genna that flourished in earlier years, are built in between the valleys (Amari Valley) and the coombs of the area.
Vrisses is another small village at the slopes of Kedros Mountain, between Ano Meros and Gerakari village and belongs to the Amari valley villages.
The distance from Rethimno is 44km and to reach the village you follow the Rethimno - Meronas - Gerakari - Ano Meros road.
