With only 85 residents, narrow and picturesque streets, old houses and mansions with breathtaking view of the mountains, it is an ideal destination for recreation or exploring the surrounding area with a more alternative look!
The character and the style of the village provide us the opportunity for a different approach to the everyday life and allow us to broach a greater extent on local habits and traditions of the place.
As we approach Georgioupolis from Vamos, we have to turn right when we see the sign of the village and the kafeneio on our left hand side.
The first things we can see when we arrive at the village are the main square and right in the middle the blue well. On our right hand we can see the traditional old cafe (kafeneion) where we can have a cold refreshing after our walk. On the other side of the square is the monument of John Emm. Alifierakis, a great fighter of the revolution, who was hanged along with his comrades at the trees of this square by the Othomans.
Easily we can walk around the village and get lost in the narrow streets admiring the old and traditional houses and the beautiful courtyards!
We will definitely come across the old traditional stone-build church of Saint George and the preserved church from the Venetian era dedicated to the Holy Triad.
The preserved old school will take us to a journey back in time, at 1934, when it was full of children and life! Mr. K.Alifieris was the teacher of the village and the one who was running the school.
“Kalamitsion Alexandrou” is the official name of the village, based at Vrisses town. Previously belonged to the municipality of Vamos and now to the municipality of Apokoronas.
Kalamitsi Alexandrou is an ideal destination to explore the area of Apokoronas and Sfakia and to have a wonderful, calm and relaxed night at the square of the village! It is very close to the larger villages of Vamos, Georgioupoli and Vrisses so you can have whatever you ask for!
