On the road from Chania city to Kissamos, 14km away from Hania is the beach and coastal settlement of Kato Gerani which extends from the Platanias bridge to the village - beach of Maleme.
Awarded every year with the Blue Flag, the beach is organized and provide quite a lot facilities such as sundchairs, umbrellas, shower, W.C. and sea sports.

Description: Ilios apartments - Hotel is a seaside complex of fully equipped apartments. Ilios is located only 29 km from the airport of Chania, prefecture of Chania , 16 km from the picturesque town of Hania and 17 km from the port of Souda.
It is close to the village of Gerani, part of the municipality of Platanias.
About 16 km westwards of the town of Chania is located the village and the beach of Maleme. The beach of Maleme constitutes the extension of Platanias - Gerani beaches.
The fact that it is not as equally busy and popular as its neighbouring beach, it does not mean that it is deprived beauty. The landscape is very picturesque, and allocates big surfaces of sandy beach and clear waters.
There are provided many kinds of water sports, fishing, snorkelling, and diving in the waterfront of Maleme; mountain biking is available on the cliffs south of the village, and horse riding facilities are provided in the horse riding centre in the nearby village of Deres. The long fine pebble beach on the north is partly organised (not crowded) and provides all kind of facilities such as sun-chairs, umbrellas, showers and sea sports. There are cafes, bars and restaurants along the waterfront road.
