Places near Kokkinos Pirgos West Beach
The northern section of the Messara bay is occupied by the Katalyki or Kataliki sandy beach, which is probably one of the most pleasant beaches of the area, with its several fish tavernas, greek bars and sunbeds.
It is an authentic, Greek place, where you can spend hours, just swimming and drinking cold coffees. The beach is located just 300m south of Kokkinos Pirgos village and Beach, and only 10 kms from historical sites of Festos and Gortys, close to Agia Triada Minoan ruins and 70km from Heraklion City

In the municipality of Timbaki belongs the community of Kokkinos Pirgos (meaning red tower) , that took its name by a castle that was there during the Middle Ages built from red clay earth. Kokkinos Pirgos is a small coastal community, 2km away from Timbaki and between Kalamaki village and Agia Galini, with a fantastic beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in South Crete, and a clear transparent sea.
It seems a forgotten small resort. In recent times several expensive homes have been built and it seems that this will become a desireable area, but plot prices are still reasonable. The small harbour has been developed and ideal for anyone wanted to keep a boat and the beach area is never crowded. There are several shops for fishermans supplies and some rather good tavernas. The bus trundles through here on its way between Heraklion and Agia Galini.
