Lampini is a traditional village of 200 inhabitants and it is situated near Spili and is 27 km away from Rethymnon city which has all the facilities that someone might need. It is located in a very short distance of the fantastic coast line of the South Crete and the cosmopolitan areas of the North of the island. It is a suitable destination for touring all the island around.
The name finds its origin in the ancient town of Lappa-Lambi. The church of the Panaghia, with its splendid dome and central nave has parts dating back to the 14th century, as can be seen from the architecture of the building and the wall paintings. The present day church is a restoration of the older building dating back to the first years of the Venetian occupation of the island. In spite of the Turkish Occupation, the church has weathered well and some of the wall paintings are in not too bad condition. There are tombs under the floor of the church, where possibly the donors, or the bishops of Lambi as was the custom, lie buried.
The village has its own traditional history and possess all those elements of an old traditional village. In the beautiful village the locals are very hospitable who are daily engaged with their traditional jobs. But the visitor can also admire the breathtaking gorges, the magnificent caves, the monuments, and the traditional church with its own history. There are flights available to Chania or Heraklion or you can travel by boat from Piraeus to Rethymnon city. After reaching Rethimno, then you will have to drive (a car is essential) to reach Lambini village where the villas are located.Within 5 min by car and 10 min by bike there is a small town called Spili where banks, restaurants, a small clinic with doctor, drugstores, international press, daily fruits and vegetables, hairdresser etc are available.

It lies on the road to Spili, at the 26th km, 26,5 km from Rethymnon city.
The correct name is Mixorouma (mix+stream), a name given to this village due to its position at the confluence of two streams. Nowadays, it is worth for visitors to visit old Mixorouma, a wonderful dorp with stone-built houses, submersed in the green landscape.
Mixorouma is well positioned, being only half an hours drive from Rethymnon, and you have a fabulous choice of beaches available, all 25 -35 minutes away. To the east there are Agios Pavlos, Ligres, Akoumia, Triopetra, and Agia Galini beaches. To the west you have Monastery Preveli and Palm Beach Preveli , Skinaria, Amoudi, and Plakias.
The village of Mixorouma belongs to the Municipality of Lampis. It has 394 residents and lies on a 300 m altitude. It is referred to with the name Mixorouma in all Venetian censuses. In 1881, it is referred to with the name Mixorouma in the Municipality of Lampis with 126 residents. In 1900, it is mentioned again in the same municipality as Mixorouma with 146 residents. In 1940 it is mentioned for the first time incorrectly as Mixorouma, a name retained up to this day.

It lies to the south-west of Spili at a distance of 34 km from Rethymnon city. It is recorded as Mournea in all the Venetian censi. At Malathre, close to a spring, to the south-west of the village of Diplochori - now in ruins -the church of Aghios Giorgos has interesting wall paintings, albeit in poor condition.
Morne is one of those village most people think they don’t know but in fact if you travelling along the road from Rethymnon city to Spili and beyond you will have noticed this village visible on a hillside both before and after Spili. There are some beautiful houses with interesting architecture probably around 250 years old and many have been beautifully restored. The friendly locals will give you unsolicited praise and advice on all matters whether you understand or not.
They are extremely generous and love to share what they have from their gardens/allotments or produce, like their own raki or wine. There is a small English speaking foreign community so if you do not speak Greek you will still find someone to speak to. Morne is well positioned, being only half an hours drive from Rethymnon, and you have a fabulous choice of beaches available, all 25 -35 minutes away. To the east there are Agios Pavlos, Ligres, Akoumia, Triopetra, and Agia Galini beaches. To the west you have Monastery Preveli and Palm Beach Preveli , Skinaria, Amoudi, and Plakias.
Alternatively the mountains are only a short drive away if you take the Gerakari village road from Spili. There are also many pleasant walks to be had around the village or along tracks or lanes to nearby villages. A favourite walk is from Mixorouma to Frati enjoying the views of the gorge from there. There are approximately 240 inhabitants and it is 34 kms from Rethymnon and only 4kms from Spili.
