It lies on the road to Spili, at the 26th km, 26,5 km from Rethymnon city.
The correct name is Mixorouma (mix+stream), a name given to this village due to its position at the confluence of two streams. Nowadays, it is worth for visitors to visit old Mixorouma, a wonderful dorp with stone-built houses, submersed in the green landscape.
Mixorouma is well positioned, being only half an hours drive from Rethymnon, and you have a fabulous choice of beaches available, all 25 -35 minutes away. To the east there are Agios Pavlos, Ligres, Akoumia, Triopetra, and Agia Galini beaches. To the west you have Monastery Preveli and Palm Beach Preveli , Skinaria, Amoudi, and Plakias.
The village of Mixorouma belongs to the Municipality of Lampis. It has 394 residents and lies on a 300 m altitude.It is referred to with the name Mixorouma in all Venetian censuses. In 1881, it is referred to with the name Mixorouma in the Municipality of Lampis with 126 residents. In 1900, it is mentioned again in the same municipality as Mixorouma with 146 residents. In 1940 it is mentioned for the first time incorrectly as Mixorouma, a name retained up to this day.
