Kounelion
Μικρό νησάκι σχεδόν στρογγυλό, αναφέρεται στους Βενετσιάνικους χάρτες ως νησί των κουνελιών. Στην αρχαιότητα τα νησάκια αυτά ονομάζονταν Λευκαί. Το όνομά τους προέρχεται από την αρχαία ελληνική μυθολογία κατά την οποία λέγεται ότι οι Σειρήνες ηττήθηκαν από τις μούσες, τις οποίες συναγωνίσθηκαν σε κάποιο μουσικό αγώνα και στεναχωρήθηκαν τόσο που τα φτερά τους, έπεσαν από τους ώμους, έγιναν λευκές και μπήκαν στη θάλασσα, και έτσι δημιουργήθηκαν τα νησάκια λευκαί. Places near Kounelion
In the lovely beach of Loutraki there are provided sun loungers for sunbathing and umbrellas. Sometimes during the weekends the sandy beach may be crowded by the locals from Chania, but even like that it is an excellent place.
Loutraki is only 15 minutes far from the international airport of Chania and 25 minutes from the port of Souda. It is an ideal place if you want to do unwind and relaxing holidays.
In1867, in the framework of a program to control Crete from a network of towers, a fortress was constructed by Hussein Avni Pasha on the northeast side of the hill of Aptera, Souda area (Chania prefecture) which became known as the Koules of Sousbasi (=sergeant).
Its restoration is in progress, and the restoration cost is about 800000 euros. After its restoration, the fortress will become a museum of the fortification art of the Turkish period in Crete and a gallery, where different exhibitions will be accommodated, as well as other cultural events. The fortress is open for visitors every day.
